About the activity

During this activity, you will have the chance to explore the diverse wildlife inhabiting the desert. Your active involvement in this activity contributes significantly to data collection for ongoing research through the lens of citizen science, as it aids in preserving the natural beauty of the region. Join us for an event that combines education, hands-on conservation, and community connection as we collectively contribute to the ongoing research and safeguard the environmental treasures for generations to come.

The data you help collect will support the expansion of our conservation efforts, and will be used to:

  • Identify species, distribution and important areas for the various life stages of each species
  • Monitor recovery and pressures
  • Investigate how Protected Areas affect populations
  • Data collected around the various species can feed into the National Plans of Action for the conservation of these species and support IUCN red listing efforts
  • Help change people’s attitudes and behaviors towards bats, scorpions and geckos.

This activity supports our objective to:

  • Protect 30% of the UAE’s wild areas by 2030.
  • Make 5,000 new research-grade observations on iNaturalist– that’s 30% more data than we currently have for the UAE on the iNaturalist app.

An informative and interesting experience to be in Nature at Night and carry out the activities as a volunteer to explore the diverse wildlife inhabiting the desert. Emirates Nature - WWF Representatives shared knowledge related to identify various species, about the wildlife and habitat in the surrounding areas along with opportunity to make observation for reptiles and insects in the surrounding areas using the iNaturalist App. Thank you Emirates Nature - WWF and all the participating volunteers.

It was an amazing experience, revealing that the desert hosts a surprising range of creatures. The WWF Volunteers were remarkably friendly and generously imparted their knowledge to the entire group. A big Thank you goes for their efforts.

Thoroughly enjoyed the event and it was great to meet wildlife-impassioned people from a number of different organisations. Very well organised and massive thanks to Arbella and Amal both very knowledgeable and very helpful individuals.

It was very informative and reach experience. We get to know more about Dubai desert fauna and floura and we met a new interesting people. The organisers were so friendly and supportive. I love it
