Join us at Wadi Wurayah to discover and record dragonflies and damselflies in a unique citizen science survey.
Discover the hidden world of dragonflies and damselflies at Wadi Wurayah National Park – the UAE’s first Mountain Protected Area. In this activity, participants will take part in the Odonata Point Count, a biodiversity monitoring survey designed to study the species diversity, abundance, and breeding cycles of these freshwater indicators.
At pre-selected monitoring points near pools, streams, and wadi beds, participants will mark a 4-meter survey circle and spend 15 minutes recording all dragonflies and damselflies that enter. Species will be identified using field sheets, and uncertain cases will be photographed for verification. By joining, you will directly contribute to research that supports the protection of freshwater ecosystems and the long-term conservation of Wadi Wurayah.
Learn how to identify and record dragonflies and damselflies, uploading observations for scientific monitoring.
Understand seasonal changes and habitat use of Odonata species, providing valuable data on the health of freshwater ecosystems.
Citizen Science: Contribute to 5,000 new research-grade observations of animals and plants in the UAE, with a focus on monitoring freshwater ecosystems at Wadi Wurayah.
Support long-term biodiversity monitoring to guide conservation strategies for sensitive habitats.
