Litter Spotter

You’ve probably noticed that plastic waste is becoming far too common at our beautiful beaches and marine ecosystems. Not only does this look terrible, but it also poses a serious risk to animal and marine life.  

With your help, we can implement a long term fix for this issue. You will begin by recording the types of litter found in nature along with its location. This data helps us measure the problem, find out where the litter is coming from, and determine effective counter-measures. It also provides a baseline of information against which we can monitor our progress and effectiveness of various solutions.

You can also help remove litter from our natural surroundings, thus protecting our natural habitats and marine life.

Who can participate?

This session is open to all Champions of Change.  Young children will need supervision.

How long will it take?

This is a self-led activity. It can be completed at your own pace and frequency.

Quick start guide

There are three ways to get started:

1. Go for a walk at a beach near you and start recording litter. You can do this at any marine or wild space around you, by yourself or with friends and family. Register for this activity to receive our handbook and helpful tips.
2. Attend events such as beach, desert and wadi clean ups organised by Emirates Nature-WWF.
3. Organise your own clean up events and invite members of your community. Check out our handbook for helpful advice.
