Join us on the 24th and the 25th of May for a unique Oral History Workshop at the National Archives in Abu Dhabi, aimed at understanding the past to combat overgrazing and preserve the UAE's rich traditions!
Overgrazing by camels has become a significant threat to desert ecosystems in the UAE, reducing species diversity and affecting ecosystem function and productivity. With social, cultural, and political factors contributing to overgrazing, it's essential to learn from past experiences and traditions to develop sustainable rangeland management strategies.
We're looking for Arabic Speakers (15 years and above), preferably Emirati Youth, to participate in this enriching workshop. Volunteers will receive a two-day training (4 hours each day) at the National Archives. After the workshop, you'll use your newly acquired skills to interview elders, community leaders and experienced camel herders, to gather invaluable information.
Volunteers must commit to participating in both workshop days.
Don't miss this opportunity to make a positive impact on our desert ecosystems and embrace the rich traditions of the UAE!
This workshop is part of the Sahim programme which the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) launched in partnership with Emirates Nature - WWF to promote public participation in scientific research and encourage people of all ages to contribute to environmental research in the UAE using innovative methods.
Through Sahim, together we can foster a culture of scientific exploration and community participation in environmental sustainability efforts.
